Rémy Pommeret

Rémy Pommeret grew up in the Paris region, where he developed an interest in several artistic disciplines: music, theater, cinema and drawing. Interested since childhood in the natural sciences and creatures from myths and fantasy films, he creates his mostly animal universe around sculpture and engraving.
During his studies at Nancy's École nationale supérieure d'art et de design, Rémy Pommeret seized on codes historically linked to the decorative arts, hieratic art, statuary, teratology and the natural sciences, to create hybrids designed to deliver dark poetry about our anthropocene era. Fascinated by medieval sculpture and Art Nouveau ceramics, as much as by the plant world and exotic plants, he develops a bestiary of domesticated animals, hybrid beings or metamorphoses of the living, proposing a double reading between the aspect of death or life. Beyond the formal aspect of his works, Rémy Pommeret is interested in the transformation of matter, comparing the action of fire in working clay and enamels to the bite of acid in etching techniques. Going against the grain of contemporary ceramics, he projects us into a recomposed past, a sort of cabinet of the curious that is as much anthropology as alchemy. JMD
