Alice Lothon

Alice Lothon is a collagist who graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the studios of Joël Kermarrec and Jean-Michel Alberola. "My collages used to fit in a toolbox, sometimes in my pockets, that's what I liked". The daughter of an anti-quaire mother, Alice Lothon has retained her taste for accumulating and combining objects from different worlds. Literature, illustration and poetry are all part of her artistic DNA. Since childhood, she has been assembling and telescoping fragments of reality. With her collages and ceramics, she creates word games (merry-go-round/household) and unsolvable rebuses influenced by the Surrealist movement and an attraction to the unconscious. During the 2000s, Alice Lothon tried her hand at utilitarian production, but soon returned to it. She explores the form, moving away from the codes of traditional craftsmanship. Clay allows her to write in space, to narrate images. Winner of the Prix Résidence at C14-PARIS after her first participation in 2019, she has been invited to work at the Keramis center in La Louvière, Belgium. Although the period is punctuated by the constraints of the pandemic, she experiments with larger formats. After several short and medium-term stays, she produced an enormous ins- tallation covering over 150 square meters, reflecting her prolix 18-month production. In addition, Alice Lothon is developing a series of sculptural objects materializing the arcana of the divinatory tarot. LR
