Open Competition

C14 PARIS is for authors of sculptural pieces (from volume to installation). Utilitarian pieces (vases, pots, crockery, accessories, furniture) are excluded from this show.
Exhibitors are selected on the basis of applications submitted online via the registration interface on the Show website: www.c14paris.com  Candidate Area" tab.

Selection is made by members of the Selection panel made up of board members and active members of the C14 PARIS association and partners (gallery owners, art center managers).

The call for applications is launched on December 09, 2024 and closes February 16, 2025.

Price list

The show jury awards the prizes:

  • The "Prix Résidence" (encouragement of a process) which offers the winner the opportunity to spend two months in one of our partner residencies (Centre Keramis La Louvière, Belgium - Fondation Bruckner in Carouge, Geneva - Rairies Montrieux in Angers and Paris...). Accommodation and production tools provided. (Cf. Residency contract)
  • The "Prix Galerie" which offers the winner, or two tied winners, a one-month exhibition in a partner gallery in France or abroad. 
  • The "Prix du Jury" - Andrée et Michel Hirlet Endowment Fund, which rewards the favorite work of the Show's organizers and the members of the awards jury. Winning this prize enables the winner:
    - to exhibit free of charge at the show the following year in a 30 m2 space (podium, 1st floor). 
    - receive a cash prize of 3,000 euros.

Obligations of the C14 PARIS association

C14 PARIS is an association under the French law of 1901. All active members are volunteers.
C14 PARIS undertakes to provide the exhibitor with a stand that complies with what has been advertised* (cf. stand description, article 4 of the regulations) and with the dates given (unless the show is cancelled beyond our control - cf. Art. 11 last paragraph of the regulations).
C14 PARIS undertakes to promote the Show to the best of its ability and within the limits of its financial resources:
- on its website and blog
- through newsletters
- on social networks (Instagram)
- having a teaser video produced by professionals and put online at the start of the show
- having a professional photographer produce a photo report of the show
- by publishing a full-colour catalog reproducing a work by each exhibitor (3 copies of which will go to each exhibitor).
- by writing a text about each of the exhibitors, who will then be able to use this text and reproduce it as they wish, as long as they note its origin as follows: "First name and surname of author", Salon C14 PARIS, "year".

Exhibitor's obligationse, exhibitor

ART.1

Participation fees

The successful candidate must subscribe to the rules and pay the total show participation fee of €350 by bank transfer in 1 instalment (€350) or in 2 instalments (2 x €175). In the absence of payment within 14 days of the election, the selection will be cancelled.

Candidates from Scandinavia, Asia or the Americas (Canada, USA, Latin America) must provide a letter from their government agreeing to cover the cost of transporting the works and the artist, as well as accommodation.

ART.2

Selection of works

The works exhibited are the result of a consensual choice (selection jury, Salon management and artist). They must be recent and/or never exhibited.
If any of the works exhibited, not previously submitted to the Show management, are deemed to be contrary to the ethics of the Show, the management has the right to ask the exhibitor to remove them.

ART.3

Exclusive

The selected artist undertakes not to exhibit in a gallery in or near Paris the same or related pieces from the same series during the 6 months preceding the C14-PARIS Show and during the Show.

Any artist who has already exhibited at Céramique 11, ArtCéram or Marché St Sulpice will not be able to exhibit at C14 PARIS in the autumn of the same year without risking the cancellation of his or her registration without reimbursement of the participation fee.

ART.4

Stand

Exhibitors are provided with a standard stand measuring H.250 x W.300 x D.100cm in 1.5cm-thick matt white plywood. 

The Four Seasons show offers slightly different configurations. Stands are allocated to candidates by active members of the association. At the end of March, exhibitors will be informed of the specific features of each stand.

Wall-mounted, floor-standing and pedestal-mounted pieces are also accepted. 

Exhibitors are responsible for the layout of their stand. This must be a real scenographic challenge. The project must be submitted to Show management in advance and discussed (April-June-July). Fabrics and curtains are to be avoided.

The exhibitor is responsible for restoring the stand to its original condition (filling in holes in partitions and repainting). Each exhibitor must provide his own small equipment (filler, spatula and roller). Paint will be supplied.

Stand lighting is provided. For fire safety reasons, no additional spotlights or electrical outlets are permitted. Any additional sockets (e.g. for video broadcasting) must be requested, and will be professionally installed by the town's technical teams.

Storage
NB: for fire safety reasons, it is forbidden to store cardboard boxes and other packaging behind stands or elsewhere on the exhibition site.

ART.5

Presence at the show

Exhibitors undertake to be present at their stand throughout the duration of the Show and during the opening hours specified, when the jury passes by and during the opening ceremony.

In case of absence one-off and inescapablethey must notify a member of the office present.

ART.6

Transporting artwork

Exhibitors are solely responsible for transporting exhibits to and from the show, and for handling them.
On request, C14 PARIS can put exhibitors from the same region in touch with each other, giving everyone the chance to carpool.

ART.7

Housing

Accommodation in Paris is the responsibility of the exhibitor.-e.

ART.8

Insurance for exhibitors' works

The C14-PARIS association does not insure exhibitors or their works. It is the responsibility of each exhibitor to take out individual civil liability insurance and to insure his or her works against breakage and theft.
Artists are solely responsible for the objects displayed or stored in their booths, as well as for any damage caused to third parties as a result of their installation.


ART.9

Reproduction rights

Each exhibitor undertakes to assign its rights to use the visual intended for the catalog between the beginning of March and the end of November for the purposes of promoting the event (press and internet).
Each exhibitor undertakes to cede definitively to C14 PARIS all rights to the use of images made during the Show by the delegated videographers and photographers.


ART.10

Sales

The room annexed to the Town Hall of the 14th arrondissement of Paris is not a shopping mall. C14 PARIS has no commercial purpose and does not intend to receive any commission on sales. The price list is indicative only, and visitors are encouraged to contact the exhibitor directly for any purchase requests.
The organizer cannot be held responsible for any disputes of any kind between buyers and exhibitors.


ART.11

Withdrawal of the candidate-e

If an exhibitor withdraws:
- between March 15th and May 31st, only half the payment will be returned, i.e. €175
- from June 1st, the full amount of the payment will be retained by the association.
By signing the present regulations and the registration form, the exhibitor expressly agrees to comply with them and with any prefectural or municipal regulations concerning police and safety measures, without recourse of any kind whatsoever.

Any delay, change of date or early closure beyond the control of C14 PARIS will not entitle the client to any compensation.
Should C14 PARIS be obliged to cancel the Salon, all monies collected will be reimbursed immediately. No recourse on any grounds whatsoever against the organizers or the association C14-PARIS is admissible.

Inter-school competition

C14 PARIS is for authors of sculptural pieces (from volume to installation). Utilitarian pieces (vases, pots, crockery, accessories, furniture) are excluded from this show.

Participation fees

When the student submits his or her application, the school undertakes to pay the registration fees. In accordance with this commitment, once the student has been elected, the school must pay the exhibition participation fee of €350 within 15 days of the election, by bank transfer.

The cost of transporting the student's work, his or her own travel and accommodation in Paris must be agreed between the student and his or her school. This does not fall within the remit of C14 PARIS.

ART.2

Selection of works

In the event that C14-PARIS is forced to cancel the Show, all monies received will be reimbursed immediately. No recourse on any grounds whatsoever against the organizers or the C14-PARIS association is admissible.

Thesis Prize Competition

This thesis prize aims to encourage the emergence of scientific work on contemporary and current ceramics, whatever the native academic discipline. Every 2 years, the prize will be awarded to a doctoral research project that contributes to the further development of ceramics, by supporting the publication of the thesis in the "Céramiques contemporaines et actuelles" collections published by Presses Universitaires du Septentrion. 

Study topics will cover the period from 1880 to the present day, in all territories. However, depending on the perspective of the study and its contribution to knowledge of contemporary and current periods, research on earlier periods may be considered. Theses that have not recently been defended, and which may not have found the circumstances necessary for publication, may also be considered.

This thesis prize will be awarded by Presses Universitaires du Septentrion in partnership with with C14 PARIS - Salon de céramiques contemporaines and Keramis - Centre de la céramique - La Louvière, Belgium 

Article 1

Type of thesis

The thesis will focus on contemporary and current ceramics, whatever the native academic discipline. Every 2 years, the prize will be awarded to a doctoral thesis whose quality and originality contribute to the further development of the field.

Article 2

Terms and conditions

Theses must be written in French. Candidates, of French or foreign nationality, must have defended their thesis in the 3 calendar years preceding the year in which the prize is awarded. Candidates who have not been selected by the jury may reapply, subject to the above conditions. 

Article 3

Price description

This thesis prize will be awarded by Presses Universitaires du Septentrion in partnership with with C14 PARIS - Salon de céramiques contemporaines and Keramis - Centre de la céramique - La Louvière (Belgium). It will be presented at the C14-Paris show during the show's opening evening, the first week of October at the Annexe de la Mairie 14.e12 rue Pierre Castagnou, 75014 Paris. It is honored by the publication of the winner's thesis by Presses Universitaires du Septentrion within one year. The Presses Universitaires du Septentrion will provide the sum of 1500 euros free of charge. euros for this purpose. The Centre de Recherches en Arts et Esthétique laboratory at the Université de Picardie - Jules Verne, a PUS partner, will contribute a further 500 euros. The applicant's laboratory, another partner institution or a consortium also undertakes to contribute an additional 1000 euros. The sum of the above contributions corresponds to the publication of a 900,000-signature thesis with black-and-white illustrations., beyond and/or with color illustrations, the amount will be revalued via quotation. The prizewinner will be required to meet the scientific requirements of the PUS, by undertaking to adhere to the proposed publication schedule, by making any necessary adaptations and corrections to the manuscript as quickly as possible, and by providing the PUS with the necessary documents during the publication process.

Article 4

Jury composition

The jury is made up of four ex officio members - directors of the PUS "Céramiques contemporaines et actuelles" collection:

Stéphanie Le Follic-Hadida is a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre and holds a doctorate in art history on 19th-20th-century sculpture. Now specialized in contemporary ceramics, she is an author and exhibition curator. She is secretary of the C14 PARIS association.

Elisabeth Piot is a lecturer in visual arts at the UFR Arts, Université de Picardie-Jules Verne. Member of the CRAE UR 4291 Laboratory. Director of the Arts, Culture matérielle et Patrimoines library at Presses universitaires du Septentrion.

Ludovic Recchia is an art historian specializing in modern and contemporary ceramics. Curator of Decorative Arts at the Musée Royal de Mariemont (BE) from 2003 to 2022, he is currently Director and Curator of Keramis - Centre de la Céramique in La Louvière (BE), an institution he helped found in 2015. He is also President of the C14 PARIS association.

Arnaud Timbert is University Professor of Art History - UFR Arts, Université de Picardie - Jules Verne. Director of the TrAme UR4284 Laboratory. Scientific Director of Presses universitaires du Septentrion.
And advisory members: teacher-researchers, lecturers, university professors, curators.

Article 5

Award calendar

1) Call publication = December 9, 2024
2) Deadline for submission = February 16, 2025 (submission conditions = via the C14 website)
3) Expertise = February to May 2025.
4) Promulgation of results and implementation of publication process = June 15, 2025
5) Award ceremony = Salon C14 opening evening = Thursday, October 2, 2025. 
6) In N+1, the published thesis will be presented at Salon C14 in October 2026. 

Article 6

How to apply

To apply for the prize, submit an application by February 16, 2025 via the online form.
This PDF file must include
- A letter of application addressed to the members of the jury;
- The doctoral thesis submitted to the jury ;
- The thesis defense report ;
- A sales pitch, a table of contents, a brief description of the work (size, number of images)
- A résumé of the candidate

Article 7

Thesis appraisal procedures

Each thesis will be appraised by the jury members using the PUS appraisal grid. Each thesis will be examined in depth by a minimum of 2 proofreaders who are members of the jury and specialists in the subject. 

Article 8

Publication of award-winning theses 

The winner undertakes to meet the requirements of Presses Universitaires du Septentrion for submission of the manuscript. These requirements can be consulted at the following address:https://www.septentrion.com/fr/notes/ . On average, it takes between 12 and 18 months for a manuscript to be published. On the date of publication of the results, the winner undertakes to submit the manuscript within a maximum period of one year. After this deadline, the aforementioned conditions for publication of the winning thesis will no longer apply.
