Coline Rosoux
Coline Rosoux's works spring directly from her fertile imagination. Originally from the Vendée region, she studied at the École d'Arts Appliqués in Nantes, then at the Beaux- Arts in Angers in the sculpture workshop of Clémence Van Lunen. At La Cambre (Brussels), the young artist continued to discover the potential of clay modeling for sculpting. Long before many artists of her generation, and with an accuracy rarely equaled, she explored the field of figurative ceramics, bringing to it that touch of apparent naivety widely imitated today. Initially influenced by the manga artist Hayao Miyazaki, Coline Rosoux draws and shapes characters and animals in absurd, funny, even "croquignolesque" situations. She excels in enamels and imitates all kinds of materials (faux-wood), but never acts gratuitously. Technology serves only the deeper meaning of her work, centered on the humanism of her subject-objects. Coline Rosoux is quick to associate objects, creating strange families that give rise to micro-narratives. For the C14-PARIS show, she presented La Femme étagère, a female bust transformed into a shelf where various small pieces (a turd, a crown, a fish, a conch shell, a figurine...) are placed on consoles. Like a rebus, these elements constitute the character's emotional barometer. Like existence itself, this body is a fantastic box of mysteries. LR
