Clarisse Mordret

Clarisse Mordret's proposal for C14-PARIS consists in presenting stoneware containers influenced by the aesthetics of haute maroquinerie. Her formal language draws an analogy between ceramic and leather materials. Trained in design at the ECAL (Lausanne), she specialized in leather goods design at a major French fashion house before training in ceramic techniques. This dual training alone explains the subtlety of her work. Without trying to imitate leather, she suggests it, choosing to work with unglazed stoneware that, once fired, gives the sensation of natural material. She works with a raw slab, cutting, folding and gluing the clay, creating yokes and using templates to avoid any trace of her hand. Her vases are hybrids, containers that refer both to the world of utilitarian volumes and to the world of fashion accessories (boots, capes, jewelry...). This frontier work is made even more ambiguous when she dresses it with flat nails, bridges, rings or metal buckles (soon to be unique bronze pieces created by the designer). In all cases, Clarisse Mordret explicitly emphasizes the coexistence of the two worlds that inspire her. LR
