Alice Aucuit
Moving between Switzerland, Reunion Island, China and Paris, Alice Aucuit's favorite medium, clay, is the common thread running through her creative process, which is constantly being challenged. She defines herself as a visual artist with a penchant for ceramics and a love of design!
Installation, craft, performance, demonstration, 2D or 3D, in urban space or in connection with natural elements, the young artist challenges the barriers and boundaries that usually break down artistic creation. Her works are highly diverse, but all deal with subjects linked to the questioning of everyday life and history. "I'm interested in the human condition: the relationship between Man, his culture and the object..." she says.
She creates unexpected links blending a variety of cultural sources, and through a kind of iconographic syncretism, tirelessly weaves a surrealist fiction where archetypes shock and clash: voodoo Venus, Shiva at the pop art fair, hacker Penelope, carefree squirrel, kawaii Darwin... Presenting for the first time at C14, she offers us a chapel of curiosities, a mix of her last two exhibitions L'écho des berceuses at FRAC Réunion (2021) and Le bureau des pauvres at École d'art de Beauvais (2022), where chimerical sculptures, cult objects, fragmented bodies, voodoo goddesses, seeds and shells, stuffed animals and lustrous porcelain, textiles, ceramics, glass, gleaned objects, dried plants, furniture... are intermingled. Installation accompanied by an astonishing soundtrack where everything seems to echo. JMD
