Synopsis: Between 2022 and 2023, Jonathan Safir and Alexis Pierlot followed ceramist Hervé Rousseau on his quest for the perfect earth, in the Boisbelle area.... Through this intriguing story, the two filmmakers draw a portrait of an artist and the place where he lives.
To coincide with the 21st edition of C14, Ateliers Beaux-Arts de Paris has invited ceramist and potter Hervé Rousseau to take over the gallery at 80 Boulevard de Montparnasse. Echoing the long tradition of transmission that Ateliers Beaux-Arts teachers uphold every day, the "Hervé Rousseau: accueillir" exhibition will feature six pieces by Hervé Rousseau, along with several made in collaboration with artists hosted in his studio between 2015 and 2022.
Ceramist and potter, trained by Augusto Tozzola, Hervé Rousseau (b. 1955) is a sculptor who has lived in Boisbelle, Cher, since 1981. His work is regularly shown around the world and can be found in major collections. In 2015, his work was the subject of a monographic exhibition at La Piscine (Roubaix), accompanied by a catalog published by Ateliers d'arts de France.
Between 2015 and 2022, Hervé Rousseau collaborated with several artists at his home-workshop in Boisbelle, as part of the "Résidence La Borne" scheme, coordinated by the Centre céramique contemporaine La Borne with the DRAC Centre-Val de Loire.
Among them, Bettina Samson, sculptor trained at the Beaux-Arts de Lyon, represented by Galerie Sultana (Paris). In residence at CCCLB in 2015, Bettina Samson is the first artist to be hosted by Hervé Rousseau as part of this program. Her work, which can be found in various public collections (CNAP, Frac Ile-de-France, Haute-Normandie, PACA, etc.), has been shown on numerous occasions, most recently at the Fabrique Pola (Bordeaux), the Villa du Parc (Annemasse), the MAC (Marseille) and the MAMVP on the occasion of the exhibition Flames, the age of ceramicsin 2021.
Island/sea/cold are the latest CCCLB residents to be welcomed into Hervé Rousseau's home. Antony Lille, Hugo Lemaire and Boris Geoffroy formed this artistic entity in 2014, after their studies at the Institut supérieur des arts et design in Toulouse. Based respectively in Sète, Paris and Marseille, working in Aveyron and elsewhere, île/mer/froid was awarded a residency at Villa Médicis in 2021 as part of the "Médicis Occitanie" program. Their work has been shown at C14 (Paris), Kéramis (La Louvière, BE), and M.O.C.O (Montpellier).
