She refuses to submit to the dictates of the rules and customs associated with technical mastery of the material, in favor of its physical expressiveness and the meaning sought. She rejects enameling and its complexities, preferring pigments, Indian ink or ballpoint pen ink, and accepts firing accidents. Nathalie Perret denounces European cultural imperialism underpinned by centuries of colonialism. Behind the extreme seduction of pulpy, metallic colors, lies the bitter memory of humiliated cultures.
