Léonore Chastagner's sculptural work is modelled directly in raw clay. It is entirely figurative, touching on precious moments in life. The artist sees her sculptures as the plastic transposition of diary entries. His aesthetic resonates with the anxieties that run through our bodies, our universal memory and the vicissitudes with which our troubled times confront us.
One of the recent pieces depicts a bed, her bed, surrounded by everyday objects: a bedside table, a cell phone, a computer, a hot-water bottle.... "I collected all these images, then used them to make a sculpture: a sculpture of that bed, that day, like a portrait of the chaos that had inhabited me for hours. The sculpture is precise, detailed, neutral: the exact opposite of my inner state. This is how I approach ceramics: as a tool to inscribe, to retain, as a quasi-documentary recorder of emotions that are sometimes confused and blurred.(...)
