Reading Sir Ernest Shackleton's The Odyssey of Endurance inspired Cécile Fouillade to turn her ceramic imagination to the poles. Porcelain and celadon lend themselves naturally to the icy analogy. We remember Benoît Pouplard's Céladonie or Nathalie Talec's work in the footsteps of Paul-Emile Victor. Cécile Fouillade's approach is different. A multiple winner between 2019 and 2023 of artistic residencies on scientific sailing ships in Greenland, Iceland and Norway, and echoing the ecological concerns of her generation, she is interested in living things and wants, through the porcelain nature and durable translation she offers to things, to translate the fur and soon the plumage of Arctic animals whose existence is threatened by global warming: seals, bears, hares...(...)
