Robin Penalva encountered clay in his second year at HEAR Strasbourg. His approach to the material was an obvious liberation. He works fast, very fast. He models, builds up hybrid forms using plates or pellets. His taste for the esoteric, the fantasy and its black, apocalyptic or demonological ramifications led him to constantly revisit the Middle Ages, the occult treatises of the 17th and 18th centuries, the mangas... So many disparate, uncategorized influences which, when mixed together, define the contours of an original, personal phantasmagoria.
