Alphonse Papillons is a pseudonym that initially evokes a circus character. One day, however, the artist sees the name inscribed on a monument to World War II resistance fighters*. History appears to him as a territory where joy and melancholy coexist. In his installations, which he describes as "yard sale sequences", Alphonse Papillon invites us to start with what we know and move on to what suddenly seems strange.
Inspired in particular by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, he creates objects that have an attitude and are therefore more than just things.
